How to Look LIke Meryl Streep in the Iron Lady Movie

If you are older, a great look for you to pull of is the one that Meryl Streep boasted in the biopic of Margaret Thatcher. Margaret Thatcher was also known for her very acute sense of classic fashion.  The look was a bit ahead of its time in the eighties and very similar to the look that Nancy Reagan was wearing at the time. It was all about wearing a crisp white shirt with a very tailored tomato red suit and jacket.  Sometimes she also wore a red plaid jacket with a very light green or yellow blouse.  The look was completed with tiny pearl drop earrings and a strand of double pearls.

Thatcher’s nylons would be beige and heels on her shoes would be demure but with a bit of sexy lift, (believe it or not Margaret Thatcher was known for her sexy legs) and usually in a high quality brown or black leather.  These shoes with truncated toes with a block heel are in fashion at John Fleuron.

The signature of Margaret Thatcher’s look, all of her life were her very bright lips which were always done up in a cool purple rose shade.  It was a very retro shade, almost the color of a barely ripe crab apple.  Her lips were always matte and done in a way that followed the natural line of her lips without lip pencil.

Thatcher’s eyebrows were very sparse and to look like her, you should pluck your eyebrows quite thin and pencil in thick color with an auburn pencil.  Another signature was her way of having her eyebrows begin roughly where her eye pupils were in her eye leaving a broader space than usual above the nose.  This also will have the effect of making your eyes seem more widely set apart.

Her look was completed with a dusting of rose blush and brown pencil on the top and bottom rims of the eyes.  She also sometimes wore dark brown mascara that went well with her caramel blonde hair. The Margaret Thatcher blonde shade was honey with darker nut-brown overtones, but if you are older you can look like Meryl Streep had her look in the movie and wear the look with bright white platinum locks.

Even though this is a look from an older woman it looks surprisingly fashionable on younger body frames and faces.

How to Care for Satin Lingerie

One of the sexiest and also most common fabrics used for lingerie is satin. It is a shiny, soft and sensuous fabric that most people find erotic. It is also comfortable enough for every daywear.  Satin clings to your body like a second skin and most people barely notice they are wearing it.

Unfortunately satin lingerie can be a little bit on the high maintenance side. This is because satin is actually a kind of silk. It is in fact the most expensive kind of silk which is why satin underwear can be so expensive. One of the reasons the fabric is so preferable is because it is a finely meshed fabric that can help provide some support to the garment while at the same time allowing the skin to breathe.

Good quality satin is easier to care for than bad quality satin. You can tell the best quality satin fabric by running your hand over it and squeezing it. If the lingerie cannot form a crease when you do this then it is a high quality silk satin. Imitation and synthetic satins will form creases for the most part and are easier to care for then the real thing. They are also often cheaper than real satin whether they be baby dolls, half-slips and camisoles.

If you paid a great deal of money for your piece of satin lingerie then it is probably a good idea to get it dry-cleaned.  However sometimes the manufacturer’s instructions on a piece of satin lingerie will tell you that you can hand wash it or even machine wash it. However machine washing is only really allowed for pieces made out of fake satin or some kind of polyester blend that mimics the look and feel of silk.

Usually you can spare yourself the expense of dry cleaning and launder your satin under things in the sink by hand. The key is to be super gentle. You should never rub or abrade the fabric with your hands, soap or anything else or the fibers in the satin could break down. This could cause a loss of color in the fabric. The same is true treating satin lingerie that has stains. Instead of rubbing them use a dry cloth or napkin to wipe the stain away and then bring it to a dry cleaner. It can be very difficult to remove a stain from saint so usually a professional treatment is required.

To avoid damaging satin lingerie some people actually hang it up on a padded hanger. This is especially recommended for lingerie you will not be wearing for a while. If you fold or ball up real satin lingerie it could develop creases over time.  You should also avoid letting the satin be exposed to too much humidity.  Moths are also problem; as they love to munch on satin so be aware of this if your home is plagued with these common pests.

Worst Fall Trends

There are some fashion trends that are hot for this Fall that just may not be for everyone. Some of them are street trends and others have been seen on the catwalk.

One of the worst trends, seen on both the street and the catwalk, is towards color camouflage prints with clashing colors. A camouflage print in red and brown on a pink background never did much for anyone. This is especially unflattering on brightly patterned leggings. It makes it look like your legs have broken out in horrible open sores. The same goes for the variations on certain cheetah and leopard prints that are on the market. Who needs to look like a neon blue cheetah or a pea soup green leopard?

Yet another trend that only looks good on the catwalk is towards peplum designs. These are dresses that are tubular and yet sport a wide, broad flared skirt. Only women who weigh two pounds look good in a dress with a peplum skirt especially if it is made in a really bright color like bright orange!

Corny graphic t-shirts were also seen in haute fashion. We are talking about black shirts with human skeletons on them and the like. This looked good on young hipsters in the nineties for a bout six months. There is an immaturity to wearing this that doe not really translate to high fashion.

Harem pants, first seen in high-fashion in the mid nineties, have also made a return and have also been seen worn by Jennifer Lopez and Gwen Stefani. Once again the Barbara Eden Harem look only suits those that are super skinny. No matter who you are your rear end and hips look huge in a pair of harem pants.

Cropped tops were seen once again on the runway for Fall but the problem with these looks is that they do not flatter plus size women. Furthermore, it is a bit chilly in the autumn in most places for this look to be pulled off. Only Kim Kardashian who spends ten hours a day in a gym and only travels by limo can afford to look like this in the winter.

Another big trend is for very long thick cuffs made out of plastic to be worn on women’s wrists. This is an impractical trend for many women because they cannot sit at a computer without the plastic cuff banging against the table. Furthermore plastic jewelry is usually a fad and it gets thrown away. Unfortunately this is one fashion fad that might end up in the garbage dump and not decompose for a couple of thousand years!

Classy Late Summer Accessories

As the summer wanes many of us are looking for jobs or want to simply look just a bit less casual as we go about our daily affairs. If you want to look a bit formal yet fashionable then there are definitely some accessories that might help you achieve that goal.

Trade in the baseball or straw cap for a black and white fedora style straw or cloth hat.  This looks a little less casual especially if  you fasten some quality grosgrain wide ribbon and a few fake flowers to it.  A leather fedora is the height of class especially if your normal mode of dress is a bit more “street”, Goth or rock n’ roll.

Another way of looking a bit classier is to take a flimsy summer dress and belt it with a sturdy, high quality belt with well-finished gold or metal surfaces or with leather.  Belts made out of thick braids of cord and large gold, silver or even wooden beads can also help make your summery outfit look a little more appropriate for the season.  The darker the leather or fabric is on the belt, the heavier and classier your entire outfit will be, especially if you match the color of the leather with your shoes.  Do not be afraid to go for more offbeat color combinations such as orange and dark brown, cream and black or navy blue and white.

One way to make your summer outfit look a little more formal is to wear large pieces of costume jewellery. Smoky plastic bangle and smoke colored fake gems can help “age” a summer outfit so it looks less like a summer outfit.  Shiny black, amber and dark blue accessories add automatic maturity and sophistication and so does anything gold.  Discard the thick rubbery sports watch for now and trade it in for a watch with a tinier face and a gold or silver chain and clasp.

Pearls tend to make anything look classy whether you wear them as a double strand as Wallace Simpson did or as a long dangling single rope.  The whiter the pearls are and the more realistic they are or look, the more they are likely to add class to your outfit.

Gold, silver and gemstone pieces that are modelled on historical pieces or that have coins as the motif also immediately add sophistication to an outfit.  Braids of twined gold chains and large broaches can also make a lighter summer outfit appear heavier and classier in appearance.
