Worst Fall Trends

There are some fashion trends that are hot for this Fall that just may not be for everyone. Some of them are street trends and others have been seen on the catwalk.

One of the worst trends, seen on both the street and the catwalk, is towards color camouflage prints with clashing colors. A camouflage print in red and brown on a pink background never did much for anyone. This is especially unflattering on brightly patterned leggings. It makes it look like your legs have broken out in horrible open sores. The same goes for the variations on certain cheetah and leopard prints that are on the market. Who needs to look like a neon blue cheetah or a pea soup green leopard?

Yet another trend that only looks good on the catwalk is towards peplum designs. These are dresses that are tubular and yet sport a wide, broad flared skirt. Only women who weigh two pounds look good in a dress with a peplum skirt especially if it is made in a really bright color like bright orange!

Corny graphic t-shirts were also seen in haute fashion. We are talking about black shirts with human skeletons on them and the like. This looked good on young hipsters in the nineties for a bout six months. There is an immaturity to wearing this that doe not really translate to high fashion.

Harem pants, first seen in high-fashion in the mid nineties, have also made a return and have also been seen worn by Jennifer Lopez and Gwen Stefani. Once again the Barbara Eden Harem look only suits those that are super skinny. No matter who you are your rear end and hips look huge in a pair of harem pants.

Cropped tops were seen once again on the runway for Fall but the problem with these looks is that they do not flatter plus size women. Furthermore, it is a bit chilly in the autumn in most places for this look to be pulled off. Only Kim Kardashian who spends ten hours a day in a gym and only travels by limo can afford to look like this in the winter.

Another big trend is for very long thick cuffs made out of plastic to be worn on women’s wrists. This is an impractical trend for many women because they cannot sit at a computer without the plastic cuff banging against the table. Furthermore plastic jewelry is usually a fad and it gets thrown away. Unfortunately this is one fashion fad that might end up in the garbage dump and not decompose for a couple of thousand years!

Hot Fashion Trends for Late Summer

There are a few fashion trends in summer acccessories that are likely to stick around all through late summer and into the fall.

All year there has been a retro leean towards the kind of feathered and beaded earrings, necklaces and belts that Cher might have worn on her television show in the seventies.  Corded bracelets with big aqua and orange opaque beads are in fashion as are thong leather sandals with braided straps.d This is also a nod to the Idle No More movement which is generating a minor trend in fashion towards indigenou styles.  However whether or not it is politically correct to wear these stylses is another matter

Bib necklaces are also very hot this season. These are collars like chokers that then have reams of jewels or crochet draping about the neck like a kerchief.  The V shape usually hangs around the neck and below the breasts. The thing that makes the 2013 version different than the ones made of metal we have seen the past few years is that the bauble or beads tend to be of different sizes.

Multi-strand necklaces are a carryover from the last couple of seasons and they are still going to be in style. Whether they are made out of chains or multi-colored these necklaces look great on everyone.

There was a trend a few years ago towards wearing you belt just under the breasts to give your long flowing dresses more of an empire waist. You are going to see this revived for this fall.  Think of using a wide or shirred belt as a bodice.  The coolest ones will be made of leather with a tiered or double buckle in black and for summer white, lime or hot pink colors.

In terms of purses the smaller the better. The latest trend is towards little purses, the size of change purses that hang on long braided leather straps and that are molded to look like the faces of animals.  A little less childish are the large, elegant fabric bags with big wooden beads and handles that have forties and fifties styles kitch prints on it.

When it comes to keeping the rain off of your clear umbrellas are back in style especially if they have that big bubble shape. A true mod umbrella with a clear plastic bubble and black and white color design is not cheap!  They usually cost about thirty dollars or more.  However that is the price you pay to look as elegant as a Mary Quant model from the sixties.

Tokyo Winter and Spring Trends

Tokyo is one of the fashion centers of the world and many of the street fashions that happen there happen on the American continent within one or two seasons as well.  Seen often on the street there is the military jacket look.  Both men and women are wearing military green or military green camouflage jackets or hoodies.  They are not oversized but fit exactly.  The less pockets the jackets has the more fashionable it is there. It shouldnot look like a flak jacket.

Dark navy blue military coats that fit well are also part of high fashion there. The coolest look is the double-breasted look. That is true here as well but the main difference is that Americans are favoring brass or enamel buttons and the simple plain matching black or blue buttons are seen on the streets of Tokyo. Military brands that are often worn in Tokyo are Neighbourhood,  Sophnet, Bathing Ape and WTAPS.

Double-breasted coats in bone, mushroom and light olive colors are also very popular.  Many very young people are seen wearing British or Canadian military green style trench coats that have been hemmed from their mid-calf length to a length that is just above the knee.  Burberry trench coats are bought from second-hand stores and hemmed a bit shorter for a very street-wise look.

If you look like you are about to go mountain hiking then you will be right in step for style in Tokyo. The most fashionable people wear mountain parkas, mountain boots and a backback. The coveted fabrics are GORE-TEX and PERTEX, which help you survive any type of climate change. These fabrics are water-proof and can help in any weather.  Outdoor brands that are popular in Japan include The North Face, Mountain Research, White Mountaineering and Victim.

Another trend is towards the sweater vest with a very wide tie that is tucked inside the V-neck. This is topped with a gore-tex style zipped jacket and not the typical blazer that you would expect.

In the winter it is also very cool to dress in all black. Your boots, shoes and runners should be black and so should your scarf and trench or pea coat.  It is more permissible to have a baggier coat on if it is black. The longer the scarf, the more effective the look is.  Black bowler hats, dress hats and baseball caps worn backwards are also very much in style.
